It’s been a little more than two years since I watched a Rick Steve’s episode that made me fall in love with England’s Lakes District. I knew I had to go there.
About six months later while we were on a cruise in South America we booked a Norway cruise and began planning this trip we are on – with the Lakes District an integral part of the itinerary.
Today was a day that was everything I had imagined the region would be. Spectacular beauty. Gorgeous mountain hiking. Sparkling lake and sunny skies. It did not disappoint.
I think few Americans come here. We have encountered a handful, but most the tourists (and there are lots of tourists) seem to be British, Irish and Scots with a sprinkling of Germans and Japanese.
It is a ways from London, so I think that is the reason. ¬† Most first time visitors to England focus on the big three – London, Bath and Cotteswolds. But if you can, do come to Keswick (pronounced Kes-ick) and breath the fresh air. You’ll be glad you did.
